T3 - LUKE INTERNATIONAL - Malawi One Health Surveillance Platform OHSP Report - 20022023
Malawi adopted the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) system as the country’s main surveillance platform.
Several initiatives to strengthen IDSR system:
- EMR for surveillance (CDC), eIDSR (World Bank), Argus pilot (UNICEF, WHO), etc.
IHR (2005): Integration, working build on existing regional strategy (IDSR)
One Health:
- a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach — working at the local, regional, national, and global levels — with the goal of achieving optimal health outcomes recognizing the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment. (CDC)
WHO JEE Report of Malawi (2019):
- A One Health platform exists but needs to be made operational - The One Health platform needs be activated. (P.4.1, page 19)
- Strengthen the One Health platform by promoting multidisciplinary capacity building through training and supportive supervision to the improve timeliness and completeness of surveillance data. (page 32)
